Chandigarh to Spiti: 9-Day Kaza–Langza Adventure Trail

Day 1: Chandigarh to Narkanda (Approx. 180 km / 6–7 hours)

Your journey begins with a beautiful drive from Chandigarh to Narkanda, a quiet hill town nestled in pine forests and apple orchards. As you ascend from the plains into the mountains, enjoy scenic Himalayan views and winding roads. On arrival, check in to your hotel and relax for the evening. Overnight stay in Narkanda.

Day 2: Narkanda to Kalpa (Approx. 180 km / 7–8 hours)

After breakfast, head toward Kalpa, a peaceful village in Kinnaur district with stunning views of the Kinner Kailash range. Drive through Rampur and Reckong Peo before reaching Kalpa. En route, witness the change in landscape as lush forests give way to rocky, arid terrain. Visit Suicide Point and enjoy a sunset over snow-capped peaks. Overnight stay in Kalpa.

Day 3: Kalpa to Tabo via Nako & Giu Mummy (Approx. 160 km / 8 hours)

Today, drive toward Tabo, stopping en route at Nako Village, home to a sacred lake and monastery. Further ahead, visit Giu Village, famous for the 500-year-old naturally preserved mummy of a Buddhist monk. By evening, arrive in Tabo, home to one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayas. Overnight stay in Tabo.

Day 4: Tabo to Kaza via Dhankar Monastery (Approx. 50 km / 3–4 hours)

In the morning, visit Tabo Monastery, often referred to as the “Ajanta of the Himalayas.” Then proceed to Dhankar Monastery, perched dramatically on a cliff overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin rivers. Continue the short drive to Kaza, the administrative capital of Spiti Valley. Check into your hotel and relax. Overnight stay in Kaza.

Day 5: Kaza to Langza, Hikkim & Komic – High Altitude Villages Tour (Approx. 50 km round trip)

Explore the remote and enchanting villages around Kaza today. Start with Langza, known for its fossil-rich mountains and giant Buddha statue overlooking the valley. Then head to Hikkim, home to the world’s highest post office. End the day at Komic, one of the world’s highest motorable villages. Return to Kaza by evening. Overnight stay in Kaza.

Day 6: Kaza to Key Monastery and Kibber (Approx. 40 km round trip)

Today’s highlights include a visit to Key Monastery, the most iconic Buddhist monastery in Spiti, dramatically perched on a hill. Continue to Kibber Village, one of the highest inhabited villages, and a gateway to wildlife experiences in the Spiti Wildlife Sanctuary. Return to Kaza in the evening for rest. Overnight stay in Kaza.

Day 7: Kaza to Chandratal Lake via Kunzum Pass (Approx. 100 km / 6–7 hours)

After breakfast, begin your adventurous drive to Chandratal Lake, crossing the majestic Kunzum Pass at 14,931 ft. On arrival, witness the surreal beauty of the crescent-shaped lake surrounded by Himalayan peaks. Spend the evening under the stars at a campsite near Chandratal (subject to weather conditions). Overnight stay in tents.

Day 8: Chandratal to Manali (Approx. 120 km / 6–7 hours)

Depart early for Manali, taking the rugged Batal–Gramphu route. Cross streams, glacier-fed rivers, and rocky terrain before entering the lush greenery of Manali Valley via the Atal Tunnel. Arrive in Manali by evening and check into your hotel. Enjoy some leisure time or stroll through the Mall Road. Overnight stay in Manali.

Day 9: Manali to Chandigarh (Approx. 300 km / 8–9 hours)

After breakfast, begin your return journey to Chandigarh, concluding your 9-day Spiti Valley adventure. Take with you memories of monasteries, stargazing nights, dramatic landscapes, and the peaceful simplicity of Himalayan life.
