9-Day Leh Journey – Nubra, Pangong & Khardung La Pass

Day 1: Arrival in Leh – Acclimatization & Local Walk

Arrive at Leh Airport, where you’ll be greeted by fresh mountain air and surreal surroundings. Transfer to your hotel and rest as your body acclimatizes to the high altitude (11,500 ft). In the evening, take a gentle walk to Leh Market or visit Shanti Stupa for sunset views over the Indus Valley. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 2: Leh Local Sightseeing – Culture & Views

Begin your day with visits to Leh Palace, which offers panoramic views of the town. Next, explore Hall of Fame Museum, dedicated to the Indian Army. Continue to the Spituk Monastery and Magnetic Hill, followed by a stop at the Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and Sangam (confluence of Zanskar and Indus Rivers). Return to Leh for the night. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 3: Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La (Approx. 130 km / 5–6 hours)

After breakfast, head out for a scenic drive to Nubra Valley via the legendary Khardung La Pass (18,380 ft) – one of the world’s highest motorable roads. Descend into the wide valley of Diskit and Hunder. Visit Diskit Monastery and enjoy a camel ride among the sand dunes of Hunder, where double-humped Bactrian camels await. Overnight stay in Hunder or Diskit.

Day 4: Nubra to Turtuk – The Hidden Village (Approx. 90 km / 3 hours one way)

Take a day excursion to Turtuk, a stunning and culturally rich village near the India–Pakistan border. Known for its Balti culture, apricot orchards, and unmatched serenity, Turtuk was opened to tourists only recently. Interact with locals and explore its traditional homes and narrow lanes. Return to Nubra by evening. Overnight stay in Nubra Valley.

Day 5: Nubra to Pangong Lake via Shyok Route (Approx. 200 km / 6–7 hours)

Drive along the beautiful Shyok River route to reach the mesmerizing Pangong Tso, the world-famous high-altitude lake sitting at 14,270 ft. The blue hues of the lake shift with the sun, making it one of the most photogenic places in India. Check into your lakefront camp and enjoy a peaceful evening by the water. Overnight stay at Pangong.

Day 6: Pangong Lake to Leh via Chang La Pass (Approx. 160 km / 6 hours)

Wake early to witness the golden sunrise over Pangong Lake. After breakfast, begin the return drive to Leh via Chang La Pass (17,586 ft), one of the highest motorable passes in the world. En route, visit Thiksey Monastery – known for its resemblance to Tibet’s Potala Palace, and Shey Palace. Reach Leh by evening. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 7: Leh to Alchi & Likir Monasteries (Approx. 140 km round trip)

Enjoy a peaceful excursion to Alchi Monastery, one of the oldest in Ladakh and known for its Indo-Tibetan art. Continue to Likir Monastery, home to a massive gold-gilded Buddha statue. Also stop at Basgo Fort and Nimo (Sangam) again if missed earlier. Return to Leh by evening. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 8: Free Day in Leh – Leisure & Shopping

Spend the day at leisure – visit local cafés, shop for traditional Ladakhi handicrafts, pashmina shawls, prayer flags, and jewelry. You may also explore nearby places like Stok Palace Museum or simply relax and absorb the Himalayan ambiance. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 9: Departure from Leh

After breakfast, check out from your hotel and transfer to Leh Airport for your flight back home. Carry unforgettable memories of monasteries, mountain passes, and the serene lakes of Ladakh.
